I feel so bad for you, I caught a tweet of yours about hurt limbs, and came to check on you, and although I’m not a regular reader of your blog, I really admire your efforts in the Web Standards industry.
You have the wishes and prayers of my students and I.
For webs sake, get well soon.
Holy Shmoly, Molly! Ouuuuch! I’ve lost count how many times I sprained my ankles growing up. No broken bones, but plenty of sprains. I think I kept the ace bandage people in business for quite a while!
Ohhh, your foot and mine could have been friends a couple weeks ago. I got my black foot falling down the stairs. That was fun as I’m sure your incident was!
My ankle and foot looked almost *exactly* how your’s does now in 2000 after I twisted, but didn’t break, it (falling off of a handicapped ramp, if you can believe it). I was on crutches for 4 weeks and a cane for 3 weeks after that, hobbling around in the snow.
Don’t make the same mistake I did — after *some* swelling goes down, and you’ve done the R.I.C.E. thing, (and assuming you have now fracture) start moving it. It will hurt like H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, but believe me, the sooner you can get range of motion back, the faster that sucker will heal. Start by “drawing” the letters of the Alphabet in the air with your toes and increase the size of the letters as your ankle allows.
I wasn’t as aggressive with my physical therapy as I should have been, and I still have pain, strength, and range of motion issues with my ankle – 7 years later. Start early with PT and you’ll be better off.

Well, that photo cured my foot fetish completely.
Get better! Now! That’s an order!
Ouch indeed, that looks pretty serious. I recommend drinking heavily; the hangover will make you forget about the foot pain for a while.
ewwwwww… that must have hurt. Single malt will ease the pain but you need someone around to fetch you drinks and food.
BTW what did you do to deserve that injury? It looks serious.

Sorry — that was “NO” fracture! NO fracture!
Note to self: spell check before dispensing medical advice . . .
Can you please not post photos like that?
