What You Wanted but Never Got
I wanted but never got a dirtbike, erector set, real football/soccer ball, a Gibson Hollow Body, a motorcycle, a skateboard, a trumpet.
You?

A Porsche Carrera GT … But I’m still young
The old, original Nintendo / NES.
My parents eventually bought me one, dad brought it from a trip to america.
Thing is, it was the NTSC version and we had a PAL TV.
I still remember sitting in front of the powered off TV and the console with loose cables, holding the controller in my hands and pretending to play Super Mario for hours.
Good times!
My very own pet Ewok, to see Andre Segovia perform, and oh…. dinner with Molly!
But, I’m married now so I might have to hold off on dinner with Molly… unless she wants to come over for dinner and amuse the wife and I with client horror stories over some nice wine, a gourmet meal, and an exquisite cheeseboard.
Or maybe we can all just fire up the Nintendo and play Duck Hunt!
I can’t remember, does that make me a spoiled child or am I too old?
I also wanted a dirt bike. Sold one that I outgrew and expected Mom to buy me a bigger one. No such luck.
Every browser to not render differently, shorter work weeks, another full-time studio web job, Starbucks every morning and another move out West.
calculator watch or the with a phone like dick tracey. Oh and win a prize from that skill crane
A motorcycle, specifically a Ducati. I’ve got one, now.

I always wanted an Easy Bake Oven but my parents never got one for me. I had to rely on my friends who had them.
I got a dirtbike but then it got sold by my father for drug money
the funniest part is that I’m not even joking, even a little bit.
in retrospect, the freedom to ask myself “what do I want”… took me 30+ years to come to terms with this and finally start asking… most of the small wishes were granted (dungeons and dragons electronic board game comes to mind)- though mostly on birthdays!
When I was very little, I always wanted one of those power wheels. I never got one. Looking back, growing up in a mountain town, having one probably wouldn’t have been all that great. Probably wouldn’t have gone far.
Sometimes it is the things we don’t get that turn out to be the best of all.
I used to pray in bed – every night – to be 5 feet tall or more – but it didn’t happen – I think that’s why I am an agnostic!
Laid last year. Ha ha! Hm.
A truthful explanation and a sense of closure.
self esteem.
Coming from a lower-middle-class family with 3 kids, my parents were unsparingly generous about giving us the things we wanted/needed. I suppose we were also good at not wanting things we knew they couldn’t afford. I remember telling my dad one day that I wanted a half-pipe. The very next weekend we bought some lumber and built one in the back yard. I was only in middle school at the time, but it didn’t take me long to discover that “professional skateboarder” wasn’t a good career fit.
The only one i miss is peace round the world. Some wishes will never end ….
An Amiga 500…. they were far superior to the Atari ST!
“I asked for a car, I got a computer. How’s that for being born under a bad sign?” -Ferris Bueller
The things I wanted but didn’t get aren’t tangible.
- To see The Clash play live.
- Alison Smith.
I wanted… Oh, heck, Mols, you know what I want/wanted, though I won’t say it here.
My Little Pony…
Barbie dolls. As an adult I’ve conceded Mum was right one this one
I bought pretty much anything else I wanted but never got once I became a responsible adult… comic books, video games, ice cream, etc.
A drum kit. My parents said that if I bought *and* constructed a shed at the bottom of the garden, and bought the drum kit, then I could have one. The meanies
Reminded by the approach of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, the opportunity to date the entire US Women’s Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team, at the same time.
Laid by my high school art teacher
Don’t tell anyone but… a Barbie horse and/or car. I outgrew that one pretty quickly tho.
Now I’m one one of that generation that refuses to grow up, so I can buy on eBay pretty much every material thing my heart ever desired, for a price
Cassandra. Oh God, did I had a crush on her.
N64, SegaCD, Dreamcast, Mega Drive, NES

Well that sucks. Can’t win ‘em all.
Since we only get one life with no guarantees either expressed or implied I recommend you get what you want while you can. Tomorrow may be too late.
What I wanted was opportunity. But the world thought otherwise. More’s the pity. My loss is theirs too.
What I got but never wanted:
A dirt bike, a can of spite, a basketball for Christmas, A savior to begin with..vindictive take me out to lunch, a Sears guitar an insurence policy and a recorder to quote damage estimates
A Corvette…!
I always wanted a horse, but am now glad that didn’t work out because I would probably still have it!

I noticed someone above wrote that they always wanted an Easy Bake Oven. well, I did, too. Back in the 60′s I asked for an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas, but I got a set of baking mixes, cakes, muffins, etc… for the EBO. What fun was that. Always talked about it, and about 8 years ago, my grown children bought me one for Christmas.
