Can Our Tribe Fit Into Texas?

I have been really ill for the last few weeks and am just now getting myself together. Sorry for the silence but if you’ll be at the tribal gathering more formally known as South by Southwest (SXSW), find me, or leave me a message in comments right here, y’all!

By the by, I’ve heard from at least a few folks who feel sad they’re not going. You’re there in spirit. Besides, until Austin builds yet another five or six hotels downtown immediately (they just built about three new ones), we’re simply not going to fit.

Texas is big, though. Really big. We’re a smart bunch. We ought to be able to figure it out for future tribal gatherings.

I’ll be there. Looking forward to meetin’ ya!

  2. Ben Buchanan Says:

It’s always a little sad to miss out - but I’m trying to focus on the happy thought of so many friends having fun :)

  3. Mike Stickel Says:

This will be my first year at the gathering. Looking forward to finally meeting the one and only Molly. :)

  4. Stephanie Sullivan Says:

Since I got too busy to go [sob], everyone’s going to have to call Lachlan Hardy, Stephanie — he’s got my ticket. ;) That will make me feel like I’m with you all. So remember, Lachlan = Stephanie. All Flickr photos of Lachlan should be titled with my name.

I did consider sending a cardboard cutout that could be brought to all the parties… but I didn’t get it done in time, dangit! heh

Have fun… I WILL be there next year!

  5. Gary Barber Says:

Sad couldn’t go. I’ll just watch for a distance over here while all you dudes have a good time. The flight time would have been a killer (24-28 hrs).

Interesting that Lachlan = Stephanie, think we should tag Lachlan as “Stephanie” from now on.

  6. Sarah Says:

Considering I need room for two right now, it’s probably not a bad thing that I’m not taking up more than my share of space.

Although I’m sure Lachlan looks great in a skirt, I don’t know whether he quite matches up to the rather stunning Stef! Ah well, time and photographic evidence will tell ;o) (I wonder how long it will take before photos of Mr Hardy in a skirt show up on flickr?) ;o)

  7. Fullman Says:

Myself, Larissa Meek (www.larissameek.com) and a few others from AgencyNet will be there. I’m sure a few of us would love to talk to you about your work with IE. :)

    Have a safe trip!

  8. Ben Buchanan Says:

@Sarah: and then of course, just minutes later those photos would appear on timwouldlickit.com

  9. pixeldiva Says:

My taxi arrives in 50 minutes to take me to the airport, and thence, to Austin, for my first trip to the US, and my first SXSW.

    I can’t wait.

    See you there!

  10. Molly Says:

Oh. My. God. Lachlan, you better be up for girl kisses. With tongue. I can’t help but kissing Stephanie every time we have drinks together.

I’m not so sure about this Lachlan = Stephanie thing, folks.

Adam, Mike, etc. - find me. I’m the loud one.

  11. Patrick Says:

Hydrate up, people. Make sure the shoes are comfie and Red Bull can be your friend.

  12. Andrew K. Says:

When I started reading this post I was thinking about the fact I’m missing SXSWi yet again this year. By the time I got to the comment form I was thinking of Lachlan in a skirt. Now my brain hurts.

Someone has some answering to do. That mental image is totally wrong on so many levels (but mostly on the “Lachlan in a skirt” level).

  13. Kevin Smokler Says:

    See you there, Kiddo.

  14. Gary Barber Says:

@Sarah This “Lachlan in a skirt” has to be done… if he won’t help.. then flickr and Mr PS will.. plans are a foot.. We need to see “Lachlanie”

@Ben As you do! Tim loves to Lick..

  15. Scott G Says:

Mols — you’re hilarious! LMAO Sad I’m missing you… Thank goodness for WDN not long ago… I’d be much worse off needing my geek fix… You people leave Austin in one piece, ok? I wanna come back next year! ;)

  18. Kimberly Blessing Says:

I’m already here! See you soon!

  19. Neil Ford Says:

Have fun in Austin, but do take care of yourself. The thought of more silence upon your return is just too much to contemplate.

    - Neil.

  32. SXSWi Wrap-up at Insulated Mug Says:

[…] For those of you who are unfamiliar with SXSW, it is a large festival held annually in Austin, TX and is comprised of three parts: Music, Film and Interactive. Essentially, SXSWi is, to my knowledge, the largest tribal gathering of web design/development and creative folk in general from all across the globe. We meet for several days where we attend panel discussions, lectures, meet with vendors, party all night and most importantly meet and make new friends with others in the industry. […]

Texas looks like quite a strange place in America, if you ask me. Nothing but desert. I think it’s probably because the movies have made the place seem so scary and full of strange people. Well, they tend to make all the deserts in America seem like strange and scary places. The South is always made to be a little weird and backwards in many ways. Just because of what they’ve done, I’m not sure that I would want to visit that part of the USA.
