Creativity Jam Session: Color Inspiration

Walking through the Detroit Metro Airport a few nights ago, I was tickled to come upon the Light Tunnel. This is a tunnel that connects the terminals to the main concourse, and it provides a psychedelic space-age experience of music and light as you make your way through. The following images were snapped in quick succession to get a feel for the experience.

It occured to me that these are great photos for color inspiration. You can see the individual photos in detail within my Michigan Flickr Set.

Your mission? To create a palette or share color inspiration work of your own for a nice, tasty color treat for all.

Holy Crap. I would have missed my flight had I been in that tunnel. Very 2001′ish.

I love that tunnel… and I love your pictures, Molly! I know a band that wanted to film a music video in there, but they were unable to get permission to do so. It’s great to go through there while listening to your favorite “spaced out” music (I like to listen to Ride).

Funny, I was just thinking about the complete opposite – shooting black and white, where the “colours” are really texture. That probably doesn’t make sense. But I realise that shooting b+w flicks a mental switch and I’ll find different shots than when I’m shooting in colour. Somehow it’s less inspiring to shoot colour with the anticipation of photoshopping it to greyscale.

Probably just an effect of shooting bucketloads of 35mm black and white back at university :)

You were here in Detroit? And you didn’t drop by? What’s up with that? And one last sentence to prove I can use punctuation that isn’t a question mark.

  5. Cool! It reminds me of a similar tunnel at Frankfurt airport.

How does it work? I mean, where are the lights hidden? Are they in those little creases at the edges of the ceiling?

    Purty, me likey.

    Hi Molly – cool tunnel.

Though I should actually post something color related-

I’ve found this site/tool to be useful when making web color systems – http://www.visibone.com/colorlab/ – lets you click colors, and it shows them together. Helped me out a lot when collaborating with people in different places as we could all see the same thing.

Very cool, but more importantly, was there disco music playing? :)

I too have been there and after traveling for several hours from another part of the US, it truly lifts up your spirit and brings your mind down a bit. Reminds me a little of waiting in line at Disney’s Orlando Space Mountain.

Your individual photos are great. I like space music when it implies New Age music.
