Things That Make You Feel Better
Do you run across snippets of quotes and other bits that bring you comfort? Today, I saw the following quote from Disraeli:

As an emotional person who expresses herself almost unabashedly, it makes me feel better about myself to realize how true this quote is. Feeling and emotion are our individual truths, even if those truths might quickly change as we work through our feelings toward better understanding.

Finally picked this one:

Don’t remember who said it first, but I love it when I feel like I made huge mistake. It reminds me that it’s nothing to worry about if you make mistakes, it makes you stronger in the end. Even when I broke up with my girl which really hurt this one helped me to get through…
Hm, maybe I should write a log on some of my favourite quotes myself sometime. Well, as soon as my (new) personal website is up that is.

As a Parrothead, there are a number of quotes from Jimmy Buffett that I like. One of my favorites is “I’d rather die while I’m living than live while I’m dead.” It’s just a simple reminder to me to be a participant in life, not an observer.

No idea who originally said this, but I find it a very useful reminder that you can never tell what could have been if you had done things differently, and that it doesn’t help anyone to dwell on it.

My current favourite is from Albert Hofman, the guy who discovered LSD. However I don’t enjoy this quote because of its psychedelic connotations so much. It appeals to me as a reminder that nothing is constant or immutable, and how things “are” actually comes from within.

My father taught me two at a young age:
“Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity” - Hanlon’s Razor (remember this everytime someone is being a jerk, and realize they may not be mean, just stupid.)
“Illegitimi non carborundum” which of course is not Latin for “don’t let the bastards grind you down.”
The guy who helped us get our first mortgage had a sign on his wall which read: “The Key to Life is How Well You Deal with Plan B”
But the number 1 all time best quote that I carry with me all the time and share with people as often as possible comes from a sign which hung over the Xerox machine at the first church where I worked. It read:
“Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.”
Print these out and post them over wherever you read email, web forums, or talk to people on the phone. It’ll make a big difference.

this really helps if you’re a worrier like I am…
Think of your problem. Ask yourself, “Right now, how does this benefit me? How does this make me feel?”. And, instantly, you can distinguish the thought as either something that’s going to help you grow or destroy you. If it is something that destroys you or others, make it your goal to STOP thinking about it.

I was looking for a site with some quotes to help cheer up someone I love. This is a great site. I got a few good quotes so I’ll give back with some of my own favourites.

wow it’s been a long time since the last post. decided to contribute because this site really helped to cheer me up. anyway, just something i learned from my econ class… the market will always adjust itself to a balance, and the market functions the way it does because it is controlled by people. therefore, people will always strive for a balance eventually.
even if things aren’t so great right now, all will equal out someday. we just have to hope that day comes soon.

If someone was to ask me what my favourite time of day was I would truthfully say morning because no matter how shit your day has been things always look better in the morning.
