@media 2006 Announced

@MEDIA IS BAAAACK . . . The London event that rocked the U.K. and Europe last summer is on for June 15-16. And this time it’s bigger, with two tracks, and an all-star lineup of speakers.

Lots of familiar faces from across the pond will be there, including Dan “Simplebits” Cederholm, Tantek “Microformats” Çelik, Eric “Pope” Meyer, Dave “Zen” Shea and myself.

The U.K. and Europe lineup is simply awesome, with Andy “Clear Left” Budd, Andy “Malarkey” Clarke, Patrick “HTML Dog” Griffiths (with an “S”), John “Logo Man” Hicks, Roger “Berea Street” Johansson, Jeremy “Intertwingle” Keith - the list goes on and on and includes some folks who we don’t see speaking too much, such as Veerle “Duoh!” Pieters, Peter-Paul “Quirksmode” Koch, and Dean “My Server My Kitchen” Edwards.

The coolest part is that everyone is talking about very creative and diverse topics - check out the terrific content.

I wrote about the passion of last year’s @media. With this lineup, and the fact that last year’s @media was completely sold out, I highly encourage you to get registered. It’s going to be a great, informative, and inspirational event.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing you there!

  1. Zach Inglis Says:

Sounds great. I won’t go though i’m afraid.

Last year was good but why are confrences so close together?

I’m going to Carson, then SXSW and already visited 2 last year (inc. @media 2005)

  2. With an S Says:

Oh come on Zach, you know deep down that @media’s going to be better than the rest of ‘em put together, right? ;)

  3. Andy Hume Says:

Oooh, looks good. Not sure about this two track stuff though…

  4. Martin Smales Says:

Whoever designed the @media 2006 site is to be fully commended. I have to say no other site I visited is more readable than this one, which looks similar to clearleft.com - large fonts initially comes to mind especially with a high resolution setting set by my monitor. Text from most of the sites I visited are too small to read, but this one is very good.

As I am from Australia, unfortunately, I won’t be attending @media 2006 (wish I am, and I have not been overseas yet…). Anyway, I will keep my eye out for Australian versions especially Web Essentials, or perhaps get one of my colleagues to be a standardista puppet for an overseas trip :)

    Cheers.

  5. Stuart Says:

Ok everyone send me tons of work and I’ll be there…

Seriously if I can get the moolah together then I’d like to be there.

  6. pixelgem Says:

Molly, do you have a nickname like the others you mention? Just wondering…

  7. Sian Says:

    Molly are you attending?

  8. Zach Inglis Says:

    Patrick,

I’d love to come to @media. London is easy to get to but its the money factor. Even after being super pooped of all those trips.

    We shall see, who knows…
    Zach

  9. Zach Inglis Says:

    Pixelgem,

    Molly “1,000,003 Books” Holzschlag

  10. paul haine Says:

Only 1,000,003? Did some go out of print?

  11. Molly Says:

    LOL! Silly kids.

  12. Matt Robin Says:

I want to be there…and I’ll try my damn hardest to be there. I didn’t know about last year’s @Media event until a few days before it happened - so I’m more prepared for it this time round.

  13. patrick h. lauke Says:

    here’s to another post-@media 5 o’clock in the morning drinking session…aeh…”wind down” ;)

  14. Roger Johansson Says:

patrick: This year I’ll make sure to book a later return flight so I can attend that very informative session you mentioned :D .

  15. Jan Brašna Says:

Aaah, I’ll do my best to be there, last time I chose Semi-Permanent instead. This time I promised myself to get to SXSW and @media, we’ll see.

  16. Confessions of an Undercover Geek » Wanna send me to @media 2006? Says:

[…] Molly, Roger, and Patrick are all talking about the @media web devleopment conference in London, June 15-16. I really wish I could go. I wish work gave me a travel budget. Most of the who’s who of web development are going to be there. […]

  17. Gareth Says:

Good to see your coming back for round two Molly.

Everything as far as I can see is perfect. The only person I feel sorry for is the guy who did the illustrations of the speakers last year (mearso.com and http://flickr.com/photos/94266061@N00/tags/atmedia2005/). How’s he going to manage with so many of you and two tracks.

On a separate note this is getting out of hand. The same conversion (and people are on every blog) :-)

  18. Dave S. Says:

    “…with an ‘S’”

    Yes! Never forget that S.

  19. Dustin Diaz Says:

This is totally wack. I don’t approve of this many great developers all showing up at one place at the same time. What if there’s a fire?

    I expressed my sympathy: http://www.dustindiaz.com/going-to-at-media-2006/

My birthday is even on the 16th (the 2nd day). Boy that would be one helluva a birthday gift.

  20. Sian Says:

Well, I’ve registered. Does anyone have any accomodation recommendations?

  21. Molly Says:

Sian: everything looks nice and about the same price.

  22. Steve Marshall Says:

I’ll be there, by hook or by crook!
I was meant to attend last year, but Ben Ward attended in my stead (ben-ward.co.uk/journal/atmedia2005/). This year, I’m going to be there, no matter what it takes.

d.Construct (2005), Carson Summit, SXSWi, and @media all in 8 months: I think this is shaping up to be a good year!

  23. Stephane Deschamps Says:

Mmmmmh. I’ll have to convince the Powers-That-Be, but last year was hard enough that I know I shall begin right now.

    Yippie for atmedia2006 !

  24. gareth Says:

For anyone else with @media fever you can hopefully keep up to date with the build up (all 5 months!) at www.morethanseven.net/atmedia2006

Hope it’s of some use - and any suggestions for more feeds welcome.

  25. Stephanie Brenton Says:

Ok, now I’m crying…I promised myself that I would go this year, but I’m pregnant and due June 12 :-(

  26. Matt Bowden Says:

I’m in South Africa at the moment - but would love to come. The price tag is a little prohibitive for a freelance designer, but if I can get the bucks together I’ll see you there!

  27. Neil T. Says:

Sounds really good and one of my friends went last year and enjoyed it, but for students it’s prohibitively expensive :( . I might see you at @Media 2008…

  28. Joe Clark Says:

They’re all so close together because everybody wants a super summer vacation. (ELSA KAWAI: “Will you sign my yearbook?!”)

  29. Alex Says:

Molly with any luck I’ll be able to attend and I look forward to drinking into the early hours with you and derek again. With anyluck (and a few extra shots) we’ll end up with some more great photos :)

  30. trovster Says:

I shall be there and am already looking forward to it. Disappointed I missed last year but hopefully it’ll be better, so I won’t feel as bad.

  31. Faruk Ateş Says:

I’m hoping to be there, but don’t know yet :(

  32. Daniel Wilkes Says:

I’m booked on and can’t wait

As a small fry web designer compared to many of the others in the audience, I was priviledged to be there last year. Really enjoyed your presentation Molly and the enthusiasm with which you spoke, looking forward to hearing you again.

  33. Elsa Says:

Yay! I got my confirmation yesterday and I can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to it. I think this might have been at the cost of going to the Clear:left AJAX training in Febuary which is a shame, but still I can’t believe how much great stuff there’s going to be.
Look forward to your presentation Molly, and hopefully I’ll get to meet a few people without turning into a gibber fangirl.

  34. Rafi B. Says:

How come it’s so expensive? It’s crazy.
You’re the only Jew whose agreeing to pay that you know Molly,
    coz I’m not coming.

  35. Bruno Girin Says:

I registered over the week-end so I’l be there!

  36. CraigDidIt.com » Blog Archive » Update round-up Says:

[…] First, I’m going on a trip to England in June. The reasons are “because I’ve always wanted to go there” and to attend the @media 2006 conference in London. Molly inspired me to this mix of work and vacation. While I’m there I expect to visit relatives that I’ve corresponded with, but never met. I want to see London, Stonehenge, Devonshire, and Cornwall. Side trips to Scotland and/or Paris are possible depending on if and who goes along. […]
