Things I Like About Today

I’M TAKING A BREAK from working and packing for a few minutes in order to blog. I’m a very lucky person as I have a lot I like about today.

  • A jet liner crashed and everyone on board survived.
  • In similar but hopefully unrelated news, I just was able to check in to my flights from home, upgrade my seats, print out my boarding passes, and now will spend less time in airports. I really love the Web when it’s truly useful.
  • I’m going to Hawaii for four days! Not a vacation but I’ll be right on the beach by Diamond Head, which is definitely a very likeable thing to do.
  • This is my favourite of all: Series 3 of Little Britain is having its first audience recording today at the BBC in London. The new season begins in the U.K. this Autumn. For U.S. viewers who can get it, BBC America is airing a Little Britain marathon on August 14 and starts running season 2 on August 17. And there’s always torrents but I never wrote that, did I.

What do you like about today?

I have just realized my first fully CSS controlled HTML page, thanks to your clear and well structured book: “spring into HTML and CSS”… Really a nice day!

  2. Jon Hicks says:

I had lunch with Denis Radenkovic (38one.com) and we hatched plans!

And also the Little Britain thing – I had no idea they were so close to a new series!

  3. Turnip says:

I thought it was Tuesday but it’s actually Wednesday! Now I could either wonder what the hell is up with my head, or be pleased that the weekend is nearer than I thought… ;)

  4. Andy Wilson says:

Living in France we have the pleasure of receiving all the domestic BBC TV channels via satellite, and we have to agree that Little Britain is a gem of outrageous comedy, and our favourite among new comedy productions. And what’s good about today? The swallows are diving over the sunflower fields, and life is good….

  5. Faruk Ateş says:

    I like:

    - my sick kitten is being taken to the vet today, hopefully he’ll get all better

    - I have another Roleplaying session tonight (I’m the DM >:) )

    - we discussed Apple / OSX / iBooks & PowerBooks at lunch today, at great length. I like that ^_^

  6. Faruk Ateş says:

    I DON’T like today for:

    - Mozilla crashing on me, making me lose a rather lengthy mail to Karl (yes, that one) *sob*

  7. Kate Bolin says:

A friend of mine, who I didn’t think would get to see me during her trip to the UK, has decided to randomly come up to Nottingham (where I am) for dinner, just to see me.

Which means seeing my friend and eating all-you-can-eat Chinese. Double points!

  8. I like today because, despite the weather people telling me it was going to rain all day, it’s been absolutely fantastic, allowing me to spend much time out in the garden, digging a nole in the lawn, amongst other things.

    Woo yay for LB!

  9. Candace says:

I like that I just finished the worst course I have ever taken. I also like that I have a fresh jar of brand new and all sharp pencils sitting beside my desk. There’s nothing like a sharp pencil.

Great topic. People don’t spend enough time appreciating life.

  10. Zach says:

Glad todays going well. Keep happy \o/

As for Little Britain, will be cool to see the new faces.

Im a happy chappy myself… my stats have gone through the roof since I redesigned ZachInglis.com a few days ago.

  11. Patricia says:

I learned what ‘blog’ is about; just happened on the subject that had intrigued me for some time.

I received confirmation of a new phone setup up that is great!

I took a photo of three beautiful blossoms on my Hibiscus palnt!
    I do like today!

  12. Jill Lenz says:

No appointments on my calendar today – yeah, get to work on websites (and cruise others) with hopefully no interruptions!

My coworker brought me some home grown garlic from his garden – mmmm, roasted garlic.

Approx. 10 weeks until Website Wave Geek Cruise where I’ll get to see you, Molly, live for the first time!

  13. Andrea says:

I like today because I am taking 3 hours off this afternoon to get a fancy haircut and pedicure.

Finally taking time to pamper myself!

  14. Matt Robin says:

I like today because I recovered from (sort of) flu symptoms from yesterday…y’know: the 24-hour illness that knocks you out for 16 hours solid!
Hope you have a pleasant trip to Hawaii Molly (I’ve never been and have always wanted to – so, just a pinch of envy there). :)

I’m also amazed that all those people survived that plane crash and was then even more impressed to discover that was the first time that particular type of plane had EVER had a crash in over 19 years of existance!

  15. bit late, but somebody just pointed out something that did make my day: keith robinson linked to my little article on “evaluating web sites for accessibility with firefox” http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue44/lauke/ from lifehacker http://www.lifehacker.com/software/web-publishing/how-to-check-web-sites-for-accessibility-with-firefox-115164.php

  16. Matt Robin says:

Faruk: You’re a DM? ….(Why does this not surprise me man?!) *Laughs*

Ummm…haven’t really got ‘in to’ Little Britain – one major obstacle might be that I actually don’t watch TV anymore! If I want to see the news, I’ll see a BBC livefeed on the web, and if I want to watch a movie – then I’ll stick a DVD on and grab some popcorn (TV still in use for the DVD player). But regular TV goes unwatched…I just got bored with it about a year ago and decided to abandon it completely!

  17. I like that there is nothing left on my to do list for today and I can drink some beer now. Hmmm. Beer.

  18. Adam says:

    I discovered this site. yay!
I also discovered Bruce Lawsons site. yay!

I have 5.1 sound and a RAM upgrade as of today. Yay!

To finish off, I just decided that ‘yay’ is a bad word. Great!

  19. Adrian says:

I like that this is the first day of permanent legal residence in the USA and as such is the first day free of worry for me and the wife for 4 years.

I also like the fact that I woke up here rather than the hotel I stayed in that looked toward Diamond Head and was 1/2 a block from the beach. However, on my first morning I discovered the proximity of the Zoo and all the happy and noisy critters greeting a new day in Hawaii!

    Have a great trip

  20. Dori says:

We’re on the same wavelength, Molly (cue Twilight Zone theme): yesterday afternoon I posted Life is good.

  21. Sian says:

Little Britain is pure class, much much better than Ricky Gervase and the Office imho. I’m having a good day as well, my boy-toy has arrived safe and sound apart from skin missing from his left hand and I’m now 32. I can’t wait to get up tomorrow morning!

  22. Sian says:

whoops! forgot to say, have a nice time in Hawaii I think you could do with sipping some cocktails (fuzzy duck is a personal fav).

  23. Asela says:

    Saw two movies (dvds).
Had a nap at 11 in the morning.
    Setup my ftp server.
    Did a good design .
Didn’t have lunch yet (4.40pm here).
And I have 8 more hours to go!

That’s the what they call working from home!

  24. Bruce says:

    Adam discovered my site. Yay!
No-one’s left a gratuitously rude comment on my blog yet. Yay!
My friend gave me 6 eggs that her hens laid, and the two I boiled for breakfast were double-yolkers, yay!
I weighed myself earlier and found I’ve lost 4 kilos *and* haven’t smoked since May 13. Yay!
I rediscovered The Cocteau Twins “Milk and Kisses” CD and drove to work extra slowly so I could listen to it all. Yay!
Fifteen sunflowers opened for the first time in my wife’s back garden. Yay!

  25. Aloha! hope you’re enjoying Hawaii…

I’m happy today that I figured out the missing piece from my swimming technique. It all just dropped into place and I couldn’t be happier.

  26. Nancy Massey says:

Working on Web sites while sitting in a wonderfully air conditioned office, that also happens to be in my home, on a disgustingly hot and humid day. Life is good.

  27. Faruk Ateş says:

Matt: yes, I’m a DM. Do tell me why that doesn’t surprise you :-)

  28. Matt Robin says:

    Faruk: Just a hunch…call it a hunch (*Laughs*….rim job!) ;-)

  29. Over and About

Molly E. Holzschlag came to Hawai’i. She took some photos. Here they are (released under Creative Commons Some Rights Reserved license). The photo below shows Koko Crater (also known, in Hawaiian, as Kohelepelepe). Immediately above it is the only…

  30. Patricia says:

I am so happy for the Space shuttle crew who have landed safely in Ca.

It is so nice to read about other people’s Happy Day(s. Thanks Molly for a Great idea!

I successfully downloaded new patches that got my printer functioning
    properly.

I like today because everything is running smoothly.
