What You Give Away, What You Take

Philosophical this morning and longing for home despite the hospitality of my Illinois hosts.

I’m asking myself this question, but haven’t fully formed an answer. Maybe you can help by sharing yours.

What do you take from others? What do you give?

I take all of their stress, worries and frustrations, and I give peace, stability and serenity.

It’s amazing what just listening and keeping your cool can do for others in stressful times. Don’t react. Observe, Think, Act.

    I give love.
I try never taking anything; I let people give what they want.

  3. Interesting question, one that if answered honestly, has the same answer no matter who you are.

I take far more than I ever give.

  4. Andy says:

When I’m at my best, I’d like to think that what I give and what I take are whatever is genuine in me and in the person I’m with. Truly connecting with whatever is real about each of us, no matter what that is.

Two things I take *and* give:
    Inspiration and food for thought.

Sometimes I do a lot of giving, and other times, lots of taking.

Cool thing is, those things don’t diminish but multiply whether you take or give.

    Hi Molly,

there is a definite answer and solution: To give and to receive are one in truth. I can only give to myself. Period. You can only give to yourself because there is only you. That is what my experience is, it is what A Course In Miracles says. It is easy to practise. Just look up the lesson 108 of the Workbook of A Course In Miracles, for a very lucid statement on this topic see the intro to the Teachers Manual of A Course In Miracles. You will easily find it here: http://www.courseinmiracles.com/

    I love your site.

    Delicious question, Molly…one to savor…

I’d change the question a bit to “What do I receive from others? What do I give to others?”

When my world is in alignment, I hope that I help others find the door within themselves to creative energy. I believe the world is overflowing with positive energy.

One of my favorite things to do for others is pass on a gift that I’ve received. I’ll call it the “mirror of potential”. I love to help people glimpse their potential (and then I give them that little push to take the first step that they have been wanting to take all along).

What do I receive from others? I think it is a bit like a mathematical equation. I receive what I give (but not necessarily from the same person I give to). The more I give, the more I receive. But I have to give without strings. And not try and figure out where the next gift is going to come from.

But, if I had to answer in just one word, I would say “Love”.

  11. I give when my batteries are charged up, I take when they are flat. The life skills trick is to learn good battery management, leading to a balanced outcome when taken over time.
    Cheers,
