Look Alikes
LET’S GET A LOOK-ALIKE MEME GOING.
Jeremy Keith posted a few look-alike photos, and I just couldn’t resist, I had to pick up the meme. So now I’m wondering what you’ve got.

Jeremy looks like Ed from “Northern Exposure.” I always liked Ed, a lot. He was a quirky and cool character played by the outrageously talented Darren Burrows.
So Jeremy (they could be brothers if you compare that pic) then wonders if Robert Scoble ever gets mistaken for Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I just figured out who the other person next to Darren E.(not the same E as you) Burrows from his “Northern Exposure” days is.
Amusing (yet self-indulgent and slightly off-topic) anecdote about the Scoble/Hoffman connection:
I was at Buffalo Billiards in Austin with Jeremy Keith and Andy Budd (among others) when Andy said, with a completely straight face, that Robert Scoble had been in a few movies, including a supporting role in The Big Lebowski. Jeremy thought back on the film, an image was triggered, and for at least a few seconds he actually believed it.
We spent the next several minutes trying really hard to remember the actor’s name (“he was in that one movie with the other guy… he has three names…”) and it was driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember it. Demanding satisfaction, I IMDBed him when I got back to the hotel, and when I saw Andy and Jeremy at breakfast the following day I exclaimed, rather loudly, “Philip Seymore Hoffman!” before I realized Mr. Scoble was sitting a few feet away, pretending not to notice. He didn’t acknowledge that he heard me, but I still felt like a jerk. Much like I feel now for threadjacking this post…
Anyway, I’ve been told I look like a cross between Roger Ebert and Silent Bob. It’s not flattering.
I don’t know of anyone who looks like me, but I’ve always thought Dave Matthews and Jeremy Piven shared a gene or two.
Depending on what I do with my hair and beard, I can look a bit like Will Turner, aka Orlando Bloom.
You’ve seen that pic, Molly.

Jack Black is my absolute twin, so I am told. Though, I have always thought myself as more the Russel Crowe type.
Funny you should mention Philip Seymour Hoffman, Molly, as one of my good friends has made that comparison with me too. Was Scoble at SXSW? And could we have done a “separated at birth” photo?
And to go another direction, but keeping the tie to SXSW, my friend Russ that I met there introduced himself to me by saying “I saw you on the plane and was trying to figure out if you were Boomer Esiason” (former football player and current football talking head).
I am of course a dead ringer for Kevin Smith/Silent Bob.

I look much too similar to Al Franken. Of course, not just Al Franken himself, but more specifically, one of his characters whose name I shall not mention.
Okay now hold up. The Silent Bob lookalikes among you need to chill out – Silent Bob is very sexy, as this photo clearly demonstrates. Kevin “I’m from New Jersey and Proud of It” Smith, his human counterpart, is my hero.
I also have a major hot crush on Jack Black because he’s a maniac, too.
What all that says about me and my tastes, who knows, but here’s a few additional thoughts for folks:

Craig C: Great story! I think I was there that morning too – at the Hampton Inn?
Tony: Here’s another SXSW tale I’ve not yet told. Eric Meyer and I were scheduled to do a book signing right after Al Franken himself. We got there, and the line for Franken was still happening. So we just hung around for a bit. Franken stood up, and I was totally surprised by how short he is. I really had no idea. Something about TV makes us think people are larger than they really are!
Back in the day when I had long hair (really long – like mid-back long), I got more than one “hey, anyone ever tell you that you look like Penn Gillette?”
Now that the hair is short (really short – like Sgt. Hulka short), I get nothing.
Yes Molly, at the Hampton, and I do think you were there. After my embarassing exclamation I attempted my best vampire-shrinking-into-the-shadows impression. Lesson learned: don’t make fun of people until you’re sure they’re not in the room. I hope Mr. Scoble is a good sport.

I have been told I look like Johnny Depp, which I see as a great compliment. I will post through a pic as soon as I get one on the computer.
I’ve recently been told and teased about looking like Jesus Christ. Personally I don’t find it insulting at all, because I know what the traditional western societal artistic portrayal of Jesus is, however historically inaccurate. I guess if you stretched it, I kind-of meet that description. I seriously doubt that Jesus looked like a tall, fair skinned, light-brown and straight- haired man of primarily north/western European decent.
