Happy Birthday, Linus
“By God, you’re a Snob and a Socialist.” – Chris Bray (about my brother Linus)

Happy Birthday, Linus! That would be my brother Linus, and yes – that’s really his name. Today is the birthday of my youngest brother, Linus Benjamin Kafka, born on 3 May 1969.
I’d like to celebrate and invite you all to join the party.
I’m not sure how many readers here have the experience of a sibling. Or if you do, that you have a good experience! I am so blessed to have two younger brothers, both of whom I deeply love and relate to in myriad ways. No matter my challenges in life, my brothers have always held pieces of me. For that I’m grateful and I understand that a close relationship to a sibling, much less more than one, is very special. Not everyone has this experience.
Linus and I can be driving down a street and see something at the same time. We laugh! And the beauty is, we don’t have to explain it to one another. The understanding is just there. Shared DNA or shared experience or both? I don’t know. It just works.
Linus is the best writer in the family, by the way. He plays at snobbery, but I have seen his fiction and essays along with his academic writing. I have seen his poems and so I know that in a family of extremely prolific and oft legendary writers, my bro shines. One day maybe he’ll blog some of that extra yummy stuff.
I love you Linus. Happy Birthday and many, many happy returns!

You are correct, there is nothing like having a sibling. I am very fortunate to have had an older brother growing up.
I lost him when I was 13, so I have not had the oppurtunity to have an adult relationship with a sibling, I envy you.
Happy Birthday Linus!
Yay! Thank you, thank you . . . I’m lucky, too. I am blessed with a family that reaches greatness, not only because we are so supportive of each other (we are) but because we are so supportive of each self, each strange and wonderful and exceptional identity that makes up this whole.
Hey Linus,
That comment sounds surprisingly optimistic and out of cynical character. You must have had a good birthday
