  1. Paul Scott Says:

The only thing that comes up in a search is christianforums.ca, I’m thoroughly confused.

  2. Jim Says:

A League of Their Own is the movie. That line was spoken by Doris Murphy (played by Rosie O’Donnell) talking about her sister “All The Way” Mae (played by Madonna)talking to Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks).

  3. Jeff Smith Says:

Dang, hope this comment still counts. I just had my girlfriend solve this one for me. I’ve seen A League of Their Own on television a million times, but according to her, I’ve never paid enough attention to pick up any of the lines…

  4. Jason Grigsby Says:

Yep. League of Their Own. I also found a long list of notes from the movie including the quote and a great reference of obscure baseball quotes from the film:
    http://www.eslnotes.com/movies/html/a-league-of-their-own.html

  5. Simon Says:

“A League of Their Own” starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and of course Madonna. One of my favourite movies of all times

  6. Sarven Capadisli Says:

An oldie but a goodie. Again, A League of Their Own.

  7. chris griffith Says:

The film is A League of Their Own. The line is delivered by Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell) talking about her sister (played by Madonna) “All The Way” Mae to Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks and his two chins).

  8. Sarven Capadisli Says:

Movie:A League of Their Own. Characters/Actors: Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell), Mae (Madonna), Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). Scene: Doris is talking with Jimmy about her sister. :)

  9. Bruce Says:

It’s me, introducing you to Pippa at the pub. I hadn’t realised anyone had filmed it, though.

    Do I win a prize?

  10. particle Says:

I peruse your site every day and lately the posts a have been few and far between (I assume you have been busy with books, speaking etc….). but I check, albeit, allowing more and more time to pass as I notice fewer and fewer posts. Then as Emeril would say,”Bam!” a post, another post, a prize, and answer I knew! Dagnabit!!!!! You are very tricky indeed Ms. Molly…..

  11. Molly Says:

Well, those of you who named the movie all got the title right, and some of you have gotten the character and actor names right, but there’s a serious flaw (that at least two of you picked up from each other, ha!) in the description.

So, no one has answered the question fully and quite correctly regarding the scene (except Bruce, but that’s another movie altogether). Therefore, first three to submit the CORRECT information including:

    • Film name
    • Character names
    • Actor names
    • CORRECT description of scene - find the flaw as described here

Will win. Although I’m almost inclined to give a book away to Jeff Smith’s girlfriend ;-)

Paul: I have no clue how that happened! Google algorithms, go figure. And Particle: Yeah, it’s a timing issue. When I’m traveling or swamped I tend not to post too much, then I get post-crazy! :)

  12. Jeff Smith Says:

@Molly: She’s probably appreciate the book. It would keep me quiet while she watches movies like this without making any of my smart aleck comments. ;)

I’ll have to try and get a hold of her at work to see if she can give a correct description of the scene…

  13. Jeff Smith Says:

After a bit of consultation and research, I’ve discovered that Mae “all the way Mae” Mordabito (Madonna) is not in fact Doris Murphy’s (Rosie O’Donnell) sister. Doris is Mae’s best friend.

  14. Sarven Capadisli Says:

Movie:A League of Their Own. Characters/Actors: Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell), Mae Mordabito (Madonna), Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). Scene: Doris is talking with Jimmy about her sister best friend Mae. (Oh pretty please, count this is a valid answer) :)

  15. Morgan Evans Says:

I’m not sure if this contest is still going on– I just wondered onto this website from the amazon.com book description– but if so, I’m going to have to agree with the previous post. I’ve seen this movie about a million times. The film is A League of Their Own and the line is said by Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell) referring to how she met her friend Mae Mordabito (Madonna) working at her father’s club. The flaw from the previous post is the whole sister thing, they’re not sisters. I hope this is all right, I didn’t double check it :)

  16. Tobias Bergius Says:

Film name: A League of Their Own
Character names:Doris Murphy, Mae Mordabito and Jimmy Dugan.
Actor names: Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and Tom Hanks.
Description of scene: Doris talks about her friend Mae and how they met. The line “She was the dancer. I was the bouncer” is also said by Doris in that same conversation.

  17. x5 Says:

film name:A League of Their Own
    Character names:Jimmy Dugan,Mae Mordabito,Doris Murphy
    Actor names:Tom Hanks,Madonna,Rosie O’Donnell
Scene:Penny Marshall’s popular 1992 comedy sheds light on a little-known chapter of American sports history with its story of a struggling team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The league was formed when the recruiting of soldiers during World War II resulted in a shortage of men’s baseball teams. The AAGPBL continued after the war (until 1954), and Marshall’s movie depicts the league in full swing, beginning when a savvy baseball scout (Jon Lovitz) finds a pair of promising new players in small-town Oregonian sisters (Geena Davis, Lori Petty). The sisters are signed to play for the Rockford Peaches near Chicago, whose new manager (Tom Hanks) is a former home-run king who wrecked his career with alcoholism. They’re all a bunch of underdogs, and Marshall (with a witty script by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel) does a fine job of establishing a colorful team of supporting players including Madonna and (in her movie debut) Rosie O’Donnell. It’s a conventional Hollywood sports story (Marshall’s never been one to take dramatic risks), but the stellar cast is delightful, and the movie’s filled with memorable moments, witty dialogue, and agreeable sentiment. And just remember: there’s no crying in baseball!

BTW,it’s unfair to your foreign readers~:-p
I fell so regretful for reading this log so late.

  18. x5 Says:

“A League of Their Own” in Chinese is “红粉联盟”.I watched this film one years ago ,which has the chinese subtitle. So,I don’t know that sentence’s scene.
    So regretful!!!!!!

  19. Simon Says:

i noticed i am the third person to answer it in the way molly wants:

Film name: A League of Their Own
Character names:Doris Murphy, Mae Mordabito and Jimmy Dugan.
Actor names: Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and Tom Hanks.
Description of scene: Doris talks about her friend Mae and how they met. The line “She was the dancer. I was the bouncer” is also said by Doris in that same conversation.

  20. Alexis Says:

I don’t know if this contest is still going on but I stumbled onto this and since A League of Their Own is one of my favorites, I had to give it a try.

Film: A League Of Their Own
Charecter Names: Doris Murphy, Mae Mordabito, and Kit Keller
Actors: Rosie O’Donnell (Doris), Madonna (Mae), Lori Petty (Kit)
Scene: They’re at a night club where Mae swing dances with several guys at once. Kit asks where Mae learned to do that and Doris explains that she used to dance at her (Doris’) father’s club and give leasons, where Doris was the bouncer.

…I think. I’m pretty sure I don’t remember the line being said to Jimmy.

  21. Richard Says:

    Hi Molly,
I sent you an email a while back. I am not sure if it landed in your spam folder. Could you please let me know if you got it?
    Thanks,
    Richard

  22. Kevin Says:

Well… I went out and bought the book and just received it today from Amazon.ca…
… I look forward to hunkering down after a little work tonight and soaking up the content…

    Thanks, Molly…

  23. Ian Lloyd Says:

I’m pleased to report that I haven’t seen this film and therefore haven’t a hope in hell of answering the question. Surely I should be rewarded for *not* watching a Madonna film? ;-)

  24. Davezilla Says:

Sure it’s not Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo? ;)

  25. particle Says:

This, I believe, is a lull between posts…………zzzzzz

  26. Creford Says:

It’s good. Really good. “A League of Their Own”.
I’m loving it. That’s made a world of difference.

  27. Molly Says:

We’ve got three winners: Jeff, Sarven, and Morgan. Keep your eyes peeled for more giveaways.
