I know I hit this one last time, but if you like Neko Case, you need the New Pornographers.

  2. Dale Cruse says:

One word: Morphine. Singer Mark Sandman is no longer with us, but damn I can listen that stuff anytime.

  3. JM says:

Right with you on the Green Day rec. Who knew those knuckleheads would grow up to make a concept album? :) It’s currently in heavy rotation as music to write by.

  4. Zelnox says:

    Amano Tsukiko’s Tenryu album

  5. Rod says:

Bobby Caldwell – The Anthology Part 1

  6. Keith Burgin says:

Most recently, AFI, Queens of the Stone Age, and Meatloaf

  7. kadavy says:

Correction: Spoon is THE best band ever.

  8. Jeremy G. says:

In rotation as of late has been the new Modest Mouse.

Also a good bet is the newest Perfect Circle album which just happened to come out on election day and also just happens to be another great concept album with a great cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine”.

  9. David says:

dittos on Green Day – although I wouldn’t be a fortysomething if I let it pass without saying “We had American Idiot in my day… We just called it ZEN ARCADE!!!”

Speaking of throwbacks… I can’t get the new Duran Duran song out of my head.

  10. particle says:

Here is some music to ponder. Only for the truly open minded.
Djivan Gasparyan – “American Duduk” Wordly, very beautiful, haunting music.

Mana – “MTV Unplugged” The Mexican equivalent of The Police. Very good. If they sang in english they would have serious rotation.

  11. Gez says:

My favourite of the moment is Franz Ferdinand.

    No particular order…
    Mindy Smith
    Sarah Harmer
    Rachel Yamagata
    Maceo Parker
    Street Pajama

  13. Phil says:

“Waiting on Buffalo” – Captain Tonic
“The Three EPs” – The Beta Band

Both very good choices to code by; both $10 off iTunes. Several songs off “The Three EPs” also show up on the “High Fidelity” soundtrack, if you’re into John Cusack movies, and of course you are.

  14. TiJean says:

    Armageddon (Armageddon)
Death Walks Behind You (Atomic Rooster)
    The Blues (Jimi Hendrix)

  15. andrew says:

Some goodies currently cranking in my iPod:

Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism (album)
Ministry of Sound Annual 2005 (album)
Ambient Nights – My Dreams of Tangerines
The Postal Service – Against All Odds (Phil Collins Cover)
    Dirty Vegas – One (album)
The Go Go’s – The Beauty and the Beat (album)

Iron and Wine did a cover of The Postal Service’s Such Great Heights song, check it out if you haven’t yet, it’s great.

  18. Foss says:

You already have Cake in there so I really don’t need to tell you how great they are! Aside from that, I’d go for Mr Bungle (complicated, crazy), Jet (simple, rocky), Deftones (heavy, melodic), Guns n Roses (great cheese!) and the Beta Band (3 EPs is really good).

  19. will says:

If you like Neko Case, check out Rilo Kiley. ‘Portions for Foxes’, to be specific.

  20. Rusty says:

Elliott Smith – from a basement on the hill
Nick Drake – Made to Love Magic
    Gov’t Mule – Deja Voodoo

  21. Jim S. says:

    Frank Sinatra: The Reprise Collection
Steve Vai (I love Bad Horsie)
    and
Megadeth (Peace Sells) a close 2nd.
    No I am not a confused person… well maybe a little :)

  22. Brent M. says:

You’ve already got Franz Ferdinand, but The Go! Team is some top-notch Brit-pop. Makes you dance in your chair. Or not in your chair.

  23. paul haine says:

Ella Guru, who I discovered by winning a random pile of CDs. Also, Devendra Banhart, and Willy Mason.

  24. Vote Oscar on Rock School
Those outside of London may not have heard of my favorite radio station – XFM. The breakfast show’s Christian O’Connel has organised a competition for under 18’s to send in covers of songs they have performed in a Rock School…

  25. Rik says:

Currently I am enjoying, in no particular order of preference:

    Arcade Fire – Funeral
    Junior Boys – Last Exit
    Fennesz – Venice
    Ricardo Villalobos – Alcachofa
    Interpol – Antics
    Michael Mayer – Fabric 13
    Animal Collective – Sung Tongs
    Spoon – Kill The Moonlight
    Luomo – The Present Lover
    Isis – Panopticon
Esbjorn Svensson Trio – Strange Place For Snow
    Dungen -Ta Det Lugnt
    The Wrens – The Meadowlands
The Unicorns – Who Will Cut Our Hair…
    Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
    blah, blah blah…

  26. ACJ says:

Playing Jamie Cullum’s Twentysomething a lot lately myself.

  27. Krista says:

If you like Neko Case, you might like Kasey Chambers. I also recommend the Jayhawks. The most recent album, Rainy Day Music is great.

  28. gregg says:

    FUN TOPIC!

    Rolling Stones

  32. joetn says:

I realize this blog’s not been visited for a while but I’ll let the music lover in me come more ‘n a month later…

Great Big Sea is playin’ on my headset, heart, and soul as of late.

I’m a fiddler and Celtic fiddle tunes and songs of the sea strongly attract me.

Jimmy Buffett, too. 3/4s of the way thru his latest novel, “A Salty Piece of Land.” Great fun!

Beatles have yet to be surpassed…as Miles Davis.

    Ray Charles is another.

    Alison Krauss and Nickel Creek.

Eileen Ivers is taking Celtic music into the next century! Give “Immigrant Soul” a listen.

Natalie McMaster…anyone who can fiddle and Irish step dance at the same time deserves respect and accolades.

Then an all time favorite of mine who will probably never be eclipsed as well is singer/songwriter/fiddler/mandolinist/guitarist/banjoist/folklorist John Hartford.
