JPG magazine debut

PHOTOBLOGGERS TAKE HEED. In November, the world will be graced by JPG Magazine. Brain child of Heather Powazek Champ and Derek Powazek, the magazine will feature photographs taken by contributing photographers who work primarily online, but would love to see their work in print.

Check out the JPG Magazine site, which contains information on how to submit your work for potential publication.

Images must be high resolution (at least 6 inches wide at 300dpi) in JPG format

What does that mean in megapixel/resolution terms? Is a 2Mp camera likely to be enough?

Sounds like a great idea though…

3.2MP should do it. What I do is open the image in photoshop, then go Image > Image Size – change the document size units to inches, untick the Resample Image box and then change the dpi to 300. That’ll then change the width/height values to its size in inches. my 3.2MP camera shoots 2048×1536 pixels and photoshop says that they are at 180dpi. The inches size is 11.3 x 8.5 inches at 180 dpi, which then changes to 6.8 x 5.1 inches at 300dpi.
