bad bad broccoli

Well, it actually started as good broccoli. Very fresh, in the fridge only one day prior to cooking. I steamed it lightly last night as a side with dinner. Perfect!

Thing is, I must have been unbelievably exhausted because I cleaned up all the dinner dishes but I didn’t grab the steamer off of the stove. I’m usually very conscientious about putting food away. This morning, I went out to do errands, go to a meeting, and then to have my hair done. I left the house locked up for about six hours.

Whatever you do in life dear friends do not leave cooked broccoli or its remnants in any known place in your environment. When I opened the door to my house, I was nearly knocked over by the stench.

Oh well, chalk it up to another stupid food trick. I probably won’t want to eat broccoli again for a really, really long time.

Do not try this with brussel sprouts. It will make broccoli odor seem tame.

Broccoli alone, wihout being burned, is worse enough for me.

How could anything with a reference to “cruciferous” be good for you? When a child my mother would say “clean your plate, children are starving in Europe, eat your broccoli and brussels sprouts” I would answer, “then send them this stuff” maybey someone did, and that is why we got back “mad cow disease” and now “chicken flu”. Besides, everyone knows a glass of wine, or a shot of tequilla and a cigarette are some of the healthiest things you can do in these modern times for your body exposed to all that other stuff. Alcohol and caffiene, nicotine, and trans fats kill enviromental hazzards. LOL. well maybe not so funny, but i wonder sometimes.

This isn’t a bad smell story, but it’s a bad food mess story. I went to a party and a friend brought a can of frozen orange juice to make screwdrivers. Well, he started chatting up this cute girl immediately and set the can down on a table. The can got knocked behind the sofa during the party and forgotten.

About an hour later we heard an odd splashing sound. The can had heated too rapidly and exploded orange, sticky mush all up the wall and the back of the sofa.

Been there. Done that. Burned the house to the ground rather than go inside. You’re right — it’s nasty!

Same thing with cauliflower, but worse… ugghh.

Yes, the only thing worse than broccoli left to its own devices in your house is burned broccoli. The smell lingers for days. Eeeshck.

Well I am a college student and I live in a god awful dorm, like it doesn’t already smell enough. I left a bag of brussell sprouts in the freezer, And by the way, it pisses me off that all that thing does is create frost. well anyway i forgot about them and went home for Christmas break. And in the dorms they unplug the fridges. Needless to say we left the windows open in the middle of winter.
