kazaa kicks back

At a hideaway on an island in Vanuatu Sharmon Networks, owner of the famed file-sharing network Kazaa received news today that U.S. Federal courts will allow them to proceed with lawsuits against a number of U.S. recording studios and record companies.

Sharmon Networks contends that these companies misused the Kazaa software to invade the privacy of Kazaa users.

Somewhere, Homer Simpson is raising a beer and shouting: “DOH! ”

I’m new to the politics of the online world; however, I’m assuming Molly doesn’t approve of the new Supreme Cout ruling…am I wrong in this assumption?

    Thanks,

The irony is so thick you can cut it with a knife. The recording industry being sued for using someone else’s software without permission/license. I love it.

PIAA Sues Libraries for LENDING Books

    Associated Press, 15 Jan 2004
The PIAA, the legal arm of the U.S. publishing industry, today filed multiple writs in the Federal Court in Washington, D.C., alleging that public libraries all over the country were deliberately distributing books without charge to the general public, causing massive hemorraging in the book publishing industry, claims the PIAA.

“There are only five large publishers left with any industry clout, and it’s because of the lending practices of public libraries. Every book checked out of a library is a book not purchased,” averred J. Snidely Whiplash, senior partner in Whiplash, Mayhem LLC, legal representatives for PIAA. “We expect to sue every municipality participating in this egregious abuse of our published, copyrighted products. Stay tuned. It’s gonna get ugly. We have some children’s lending libraries and Bookmobiles targeted next.”
