geoblogging
I’ve been spending some time looking into the geographical mapping of weblogs. It’s a simple concept, really. You add some metadata to your documents that contain your geographical coordinates. This data is then used to generate a list of other weblogs that are geographically close to you. There’s even a Movable Type plug-in to automate the process for MT users.
Go ahead and check out blogs near me.
If this is something that interests you, check out:
- GeoURL ICBM Address Server. This site will help you get set up.
- Entry Location Plugin. For Movable Type users, allows you to tag every individual post with a location.
- blizg. Cool blog index that looks for connections between weblogs, with a feature that supports ICBM.
By the way, “ICBM” isn’t an acronym. It’s a bit of jargon from back when Usenet was being mapped.

Thanks for the info on the plug-in, i wasn’t aware of it! I’ve had my GeoURL info up for a bit, and I think it’s interesting to see who might be your “neighbour” in the blogosphere. In a similar vein, the World as a Blog is rather interesting as well. Check it out sometime!

Haha! I love one of your neighbors’ names: Smack by Bishop. Here are my neighbors.

You meant this, right?

What would’ve been even more funnier if Molly had a web neighbor with the site name of “Slap me backhanded”. Now that would’ve been a kick.
Another site that is in the same vein as Blizg is The BlogMatch Project: http://dollar.biz.uiowa.edu/~yingzhan/ - Notifies you of blogs with similar interests as your’s.

NIts, just when i thought i had the cyberblogome project near completion a whole new class of jumping Genes, Mollys, and blogosomes gets added. I think you “carbon based mostly bags of water” have created a self replicating and mutating entity that may eventually repalace chocolate an jalapinos as the basis of life in this universe.

Molly, I’m new to blogging and I use wordpress,, and I really didn’t know what to do with those geographical coordinates that wordpress always asked for! Thanks for explaining this concept of geoblogging. As I already told you, I think I really need to learn a lot from YOU.
